Police have been granted new powers to move on potential troublemakers in a bid to crack down on antisocial behaviour in Cranford.

From Tuesday, cops can ask anyone whose behaviour is likely to be threatening to passers-by to leave the area for at least 24 hours. If they return within that period they can be arrested.

Gurpal VirdiA Sikh detective from Cranford has lost his appeal against a decision to clear Met Police bosses of victimisation.

Gurpal Virdi was awarded £70,000 after winning an employment tribunal in June last year, only for judges to overturn the ruling on appeal.

One of the victims of a suspected hit-and-run smash at the weekend was from Cranford, police have revealed.

Naseem Kayani, 46, of Byron Avenue, was killed in the early hours of Saturday morning when an Asian man driving a BMW hit him and 21-year-old Monica Kovacova as they stood near a parked car in Perivale. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
